Facing North-West
The Jura mountains.  The Jurassic period in geology was named for the formation of these mountains, and I would argue that they are one of the Jurassic period's more impressive accomplishments.  
 
Facing South
 The French Alps on the other side of lake Geneva.  The highest (and brightest) peak in the background is Mont-Blanc. 

The vineyards are a nice touch, yes?

Proximity

One of the most defining parts of a city is the proximity of shared spaces. There have been times when I've been so grateful for it, like when I start making a batch of cookies before checking to see if I have any eggs, and I can walk to the corner market and get a dozen and be home in five minutes. There have also been times when I've been less grateful, like when I lived next door to a makeshift mariachi band with regular late night jam sessions. A little taste of academia

--> It’s been almost a year to the day since I published my most last post on this blog.   Needless to say, we have a lot of catching up to do.   Rather than trying to retell everything though, I am just going to pick up with where I am now.   And, to continue in the spirit of change, I am going to use this space to process some lessons I have been learning instead of simply retelling all of my experiences in India.   It’s late tonight.   Actually, to be honest, it’s only 10:17pm, but after not enough sleep all week and an intellectually and socially demanding day, my body aches for rest.   But I cannot sleep until I have recorded the events of this day in all their glory before they are faded by morning.   Today I, almost by accident, went to a conference that was focused on how to respond to global humanitarian crises.   It was on my campus, but those in attendance were not typical visitors to the school. Sometimes I can feel myself grow.

(this is who i was) (this is who i am) (this is who i want to be) You know those little spongy things that start out really tiny and then you put them in a glass of water and they grow bigger? They squish up against the sides of the glass and you think they’re done growing, but if you put them in the bathtub, they will get even bigger? It’s like I just got put into a bathtub and realized that I have so much more room to grow. I feel like I’m outgrowing my clothes. I mean, as a person, I’m just taking in so much that I don’t even think there’s room for it all in my head (hopefully the overflow doesn’t go to my hips). My current, somewhat narrow worldview and understanding of things literally can’t even keep up with everything my mind is learning. What do you do when this happens? Well, you buy new clothes.
